I have 5 years experience of tutoring, with over 15 years of Japanese learning experience and a degree in Japanese Studies with a year abroad completed jointly at Okayama and Seikei universities in Japan. Additionally, my dissertation established a new concept in relation to gender dynamics in Japanese society through a combination of qualitative and quantitative research.

I'm used to providing lessons in a more freehand format! I work with people to build up their oral Japanese skills and improve their application of grammar with a routine that builds up their knowledge from the fundamentals. I don't get too bogged down on looking at a textbook, and lessons will often include a few side tangents as I explain additional applications of various grammar points as they'd be used in native-level conversation.

I do occasionally use self-made cheat sheets or provide pre-made resources for the student to look at as we progress through the lessons. I've found that ensuring my students know where to look for their information, and building up their research skills allows for far better outcomes than simply providing the resources and ending it there.

At the end of the day, you never stop learning a language. So as a fellow learner and Japanese enthusiast - I'm familiar with the tools that are going to help you achieve your goals and target fluency. I love this language and I will do absolutely everything in my power to teach you in a way that lets you love it too.
