I adapt the approach depending on the student's preferences and what brings out the best in them. I use a combination of visual slides, questions, materials and exercises to keep lessons interesting, varied but with a structure. I encourage the student to not be afraid to ask questions and to be curious, as this helps them learn (and retain) key information. Most children focus on one or two subjects in the lesson's hour (English and maths usually). I also offer music theory up to grade five. Students progress is assessed through KS1/KS2 practice papers, homework assignments and check-ins.

Usually, for a one hour lesson, I adapt the pomodoro technique (a technique which incorporates very short breaks), as this helps students remain engaged. It depends on the student however, and what the parent/guardian feel is best too. Dynamics of lessons are calm, supportive and encouraging. I provide regular updates regarding the child's progress to parent or guardian.

In terms of experience, I have tutored friends children in KS2 maths, music theory and English. I encourage a love of reading in my students, because this supports development in all other subjects. Previously, I have taught violin and music theory in person, my students have continued to grow and progress in their music studies from my teaching. I come from a family of teachers that encouraged a love of learning and I love to pass that onto my students. My students not only gain confidence in the fundamentals of their subject, but also become confident adapting to learning new skills in the future.
