Portia Jennings

With a First Class degree in Spanish and English Literature, I am an experienced, dynamic and patient Spanish tutor with a passion for educational inclusion. I have varied teaching experience, from tutoring Spanish GCSE and A-Level students online and in person and delivering intensive revision courses for secondary school students, to implementing a Spanish curriculum in a Scottish primary school that lacked teaching resources and delivering educational workshops to individuals with learning disabilities.

I have consistently achieved excellent academic results, including the highest results in my year at university for Spanish, and enjoy sharing my techniques for boosting fluency and exam results with students while inspiring their interest in the many vibrant cultures of Spain and Latin America. Many of my GCSE students have developed a passion for Hispanic language and culture through my lessons and chosen to continue studying Spanish at A-Level. It has also been rewarding to see previous Spanish GCSE and A-Level students significantly improve on their predicted grades and achieve excellent exam results with my support.

My lessons are designed to boost students' confidence and linguistic fluency, particularly in vocabulary and verb tenses. I understand how difficult it is to grasp and memorise the many verb tenses initially, and my clear and engaging explanations enable students to quickly master the formation of all tenses to improve their performance in reading, writing and speaking exams. I adopt an interactive and immersive approach which is aimed at improving conversational Spanish through frequent oral and listening practice.
