Peter Lundy

My teaching career began in 2010 at Access to Music College in Brighton where I achieved a success rate of 87% on the Level 1 Performing Musician course that I designed. (In 2013, the course was commended by Ofsted.) While there, I taught GCSE English re-sits and it was this experience that, when the college closed in 2016, inspired me to work in a secondary school, where I could help students pass their GCSE English exams in Key Stage 4, rather than re-take them later.

In 2017, I began working at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy, where I delivered GCSE English re-sit lessons, as well as working with small groups of students. I taught across all year groups - in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 - so I developed a deep understanding of the set texts for both OCR and AQA awarding bodies for English Language and Literature.

In January 2022, I began working at Brighton MET college, providing 1-2-1 Additional Learning Support for students with SEND. When funding ended in July 2023, I went back to secondary education, working as a 1-2-1 English intervention tutor at Blatchington Mill School. Funding for that role ended in July 2025 and since then, I have worked as a private tutor.

My lessons are fun because they involve a lot of creativity. For example, students sitting their GCSE English Language exam are encouraged to "take your characters to the exam!" This strategy involves choosing characters, plots and even settings before the exam, so that the student develop confidence in their creative writing skills.
