Olivia Carstairs

I trained in opera at Royal College of Music, where I completed a Bachelor of Music degree. I also have professional experience performing as an opera singer across London.

My lessons begin with the foundations of healthy vocal technique, focusing on proper breathing and breath support. I am trained in the Accent Method, which emphasises efficient breathing and coordination to develop a free, natural voice. We then work on vocal exercises and scales, ensuring that you are connected to your breath support and physical alignment in order to reduce tension in the throat and build a technique with long-term vocal health and longevity.

Alongside vocal technique, lessons will also include choosing and developing repertoire for auditions, performances, or ABRSM exams, as well as exploring songs that you simply love to sing. We will work on connecting emotionally with the music, understanding the meaning of the song, and developing performance and acting skills to help you communicate confidently and authentically.

I tailor lessons to each student’s individual goals and experience level, whether they are interested in classical singing, musical theatre, pop, audition preparation, or singing for enjoyment. I have experience teaching one-to-one lessons for students aged 7–20, as well as leading choirs of all ages.
