Hi! I'm Nina, an English Literature & Chinese student at Durham University, with extensive experience in tutoring English (Lit & Lang), Chinese, Maths, Politics, and Science, both in person and on other online tutoring sites. I am a passionate student, and my own academic success (4A*, 1A at A-level) has taught me so much that it has driven me to pass on all I have learnt to the next generation of students. I really believe that every student has potential, it's just about identifying your strengths and weaknesses so that together we can harness them to help you achieve the greatest success! I believe in stretching and challenging my students to their full potential, all whilst maintaining a patient and encouraging approach.
That means that rather than lecturing students, my teaching style is interactive and engaging, and aims to be like a conversation between myself and the student. In English, that looks like me asking you what YOU think of a text and what YOU are able to identify through analysis, before supplementing that knowledge with my own observations. In Chinese, that means I will ask you which vocabulary you are already familiar with in a topic, before going over new content together. In Politics, I will encourage students to formulate and express their own opinions in a coherent and well-justified way, within the safe environment of our lesson, to help them apply these in time-pressured essays and exams.
I encourage my students to ask questions whenever anything is unclear, and offer to give them more examples or explanations with a different approach. And, finally, I pride myself on listening to exactly what the student themself wants to learn- they know themselves better than anyone else! Apart from my own observations of their strengths and weakness, I am always open to suggestions about which weaker areas they feel would benefit from closer attention in our sessions together so that they can get the very most out of them!
