I believe I would be a strong candidate for this role because of my academic background in English, my excellent written and verbal communication skills, and my experience explaining complex information clearly and confidently to others.
I studied English Language and Literature at A Level, achieving a B, alongside completing a BA (Hons) in Politics at the University of York, graduating with a 2:1. My academic experience has developed my ability to analyse written material carefully, construct well-structured arguments and communicate ideas effectively. These are skills I believe are particularly valuable when supporting students with English, whether they are developing their writing, comprehension, vocabulary, grammar or confidence.
My professional experience has further strengthened my communication and attention to detail. During my internship at TLT LLP, I drafted a range of professional documents, including client correspondence and legal statements, while also accurately recording and summarising client meetings. I was specifically praised for the clarity and professionalism of my written work. I also conducted research and developed a training presentation that was used by over 30 team members. These experiences have taught me how to take complicated information and present it in a clear and accessible way—an approach I would bring to tutoring.
I am also confident working with people and adapting my communication style to different audiences. Throughout university, I have taken on leadership and committee responsibilities, worked collaboratively with others and delivered presentations to senior audiences. I understand that every student learns differently, and I would aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their confidence. My approach would be patient and encouraging while still challenging students to improve and reach their potential.
I believe my combination of academic ability, communication skills, professionalism and willingness to support others would make me an effective English Tutor. Most importantly, I would take pride in helping students become more confident in their English and develop skills that they can carry into their wider education.
Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my experience and enthusiasm could contribute to your tutoring programme.
Yours faithfully,
Neeraj Sanghera
