I design my lessons to be clear, supportive, and tailored to each student’s needs. As a Biomedical Science undergraduate at the University of Manchester, with an A* in A-level Biology, I have a strong academic understanding of the subject and can explain complex biological concepts in a clear and accessible way for GCSE and A-level students.
Typically, I focus on breaking down difficult topics step by step using clear explanations alongside diagrams to strengthen understanding. Once the topic is fully understood, I model how to approach and structure an exam question, then work through a similar question collaboratively with the student. Finally, the student attempts a question independently, after which I provide detailed feedback to reinforce understanding and improve exam technique. Biology mark schemes can often seem confusing or overly specific, so a key part of my approach is to teach students how to identify and respond to key command words in exam questions and to familiarise them with how mark schemes work, what examiners are looking for in answers and how to maximise their marks.
I adapt sessions to each student’s learning style and pace. This might include revisiting challenging topics, practising exam questions, reviewing mark schemes, or building confidence in areas students find difficult. I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing their understanding without pressure.
Alongside my academic background, I also have two years of experience working with secondary school students through a student mediation programme. In this role, I supported students in navigating challenging situations, improving communication, and feeling heard and supported. This experience strengthened my ability to build trust with students and communicate in a calm, approachable way.
My goal is to help students improve their grades while also building confidence in biology and developing a genuine interest in the subject.
