Miella Hood

I have over three years of private tutoring experience and previously established and ran my own tutoring business, teaching students across a range of ages, abilities and exam boards including Edexcel, OCR and WJEC. I also spent a summer volunteering as a teacher in Nepal, teaching Mathematics, English and Science, which further developed my ability to adapt lessons to different students and learning styles.

My lessons are delivered online via Microsoft Teams, with each student given their own interactive OneNote workbook. I use this to keep everything organised in one place, with separate sections for the syllabus, lesson notes, homework, practice questions, past papers and ongoing feedback. This also allows students to revisit previous lessons easily and clearly track their progress over time.

I tailor every lesson to the individual student, beginning by identifying their strengths, areas for improvement and academic goals. Lessons combine clear explanations, worked examples, interactive questions and exam-style practice, with regular use of past papers to develop both subject knowledge and exam technique. I also set targeted homework and provide regular feedback to students and, where appropriate, parents or guardians.

I am particularly focused on building confidence as well as improving academic performance. Several of my previous students have exceeded predicted grades, moved into higher sets and become significantly more confident in subjects they had previously found challenging.

Academically, I achieved 11 A*s at GCSE and A*s in Mathematics, Economics and Chemistry at A level. I went on to achieve a First-Class degree in Economics from UCL and a Masters in Financial Analysis from London Business School. I tutor Mathematics and Economics up to A level, as well as English, Science and Geography up to GCSE level.
