Mia Hawksbee

My lessons are friendly, relaxed and focused on building confidence in Spanish. I structure each lesson with a mix of vocabulary, practice exercises and simple conversation, so students can actively use what they learn rather than just memorising it.
I usually begin with a short recap, introduce a small amount of new content, and then practise it through speaking and interactive activities. I adapt lessons to each student’s level and pace, making sure they feel comfortable and supported.
As an intermediate Spanish learner myself, I understand the challenges of learning a language and aim to explain things in a clear and relatable way, especially for beginners and early learners.
I have developed my Spanish through real-life experience, including speaking with native speakers. Although I was born in Spain and lived there for the first five years of my life, I later had to rebuild my Spanish from the basics.
I spent several summers living with family in Spain, where I made friends—many of whom spoke little or no English—which helped me quickly improve my understanding and communication skills. This experience gave me confidence in conversational Spanish and taught me how to learn the language naturally.
I am continuing to improve my Spanish skills through regular practice and by speaking with native speakers whenever possible. I particularly enjoy learning through real conversations, as I find this helps me understand the language in a more natural and practical way. I am also motivated to keep developing my fluency and confidence so that I can help others learn Spanish effectively in the future.
