Throughout my experience as both a student and an academic mentor, I have learned that tutoring is not simply about explaining new topics. It is also about helping students understand how they think, where they struggle and what allows them to progress with confidence.

I have been a tutee myself, and the tutors I remember most were more than just mathematics teachers. They took the time to listen, understand my individual needs and present mathematics in a way that finally made sense to me. Their support helped shape the confidence and resilience that eventually led me to study aerospace engineering.

For me, that journey began with mathematics. It taught me to remain curious when a problem seemed difficult, to learn from mistakes and to persist after unsuccessful attempts. This is what I hope to develop in my students: a stronger understanding of mathematics, a more confident approach to problem-solving and the determination to perform at their best in exams.

As your tutor, I will regularly check in with you to understand your goals, identify any gaps in your knowledge and determine what support will best develop your analytical and problem-solving skills.

I will help you approach each problem with the right framing, breaking it down into manageable steps before selecting and applying the relevant mathematics. Through guided practice, we will develop a reliable mental checklist that you can use independently when tackling unfamiliar questions.

Where appropriate, I recommend a two-hour lesson consisting of two 55-minute practice blocks with a 10-minute break in between. The break provides an opportunity to review the first part of the lesson, discuss any difficulties and adjust the second practice block according to your needs.

My teaching will be aligned with the specifications and assessment styles of AQA and Pearson Edexcel. Alongside strengthening your mathematical understanding, we will work on exam technique, question interpretation, mathematical communication, and effective use of working, helping you maximise your performance under exam conditions.
