Marshall Shumba

I have taught Biology and Natural Sciences for more that 12 years in South Africa and I offer exciting lessons whereby everyone participates in the construction of her or his own knowledge. We will learn from everyday practical experiences and events that happen in our lives and formulate and discover scientific concepts that lie hidden within our life experiences. Learning is fun and you will only experience that fun if given a chance to tell your story and also listen to other students' stories through constructive dialogue and discussions which will enable you to develop problem solving and analytical skills through participatory methodologies. As you attempt to analyse and solve these problems you will be able to develop and discover a wide range of scientific concepts that you may apply to improve our livelihoods and eliminate or mitigate negative impacts caused by the challenges that we face in everyday life and by doing so you will be actively generating your own knowledge whilst at the same time enjoying the classroom environment.

My role will be to facilitate your learning, provide positive feedback so that I assist in scaffolding you to a higher level of understanding which will enable you to deal with complex situations that require deeper levels of understanding. In my class there are no failures, there are learners because its either you learn or pass; 'I can't' does not exist because everybody tries, and you can therefore not fail to try.
