I aim to create a friendly and approachable learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging with the material. At the same time, lessons are purposeful and structured, with clear expectations for progress and independent work.
A typical lesson begins with a short check-in and discussion to understand how the student is feeling and what they need to focus on. I then introduce or review the key topic, explaining the theory in a clear and accessible way, often breaking it down step by step.
This is followed by worked examples, where I demonstrate methods and thought processes. We then move into guided practice, where the student attempts questions with support and discussion. I encourage students to think independently, while remaining available to guide them when needed.
As confidence builds, students complete independent practice questions to consolidate their understanding. During this stage, I focus on identifying misconceptions, reinforcing key skills, and encouraging exam-style thinking.
My lessons are interactive and adaptive. I adjust the pace and level of support depending on the student’s ability, confidence, and goals. I also use exam-style questions and past papers regularly to prepare students for SATs, entrance exams, and GCSEs.
Overall, my approach balances structure with encouragement, ensuring students feel supported while being challenged appropriately to make steady progress.
