Maria Salmerón

After completing my MA at Kings College, I became very keen to teach Spanish in England. I have spent a lot of time in this country and both my children were educated here. In the UK I taught Spanish Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 including various examination groups (IB higher, IB Standard, GCSE - Edexcel board and A level -Edexcel board). It is very important to me that I am fully prepared so that my pupils make the most progress possible. I am an IB examiner.

I ensure my pupils have as many opportunities to speak in Spanish throughout the lesson; speaking in the target language is a really valuable way for pupils to show their progress. I am confident teaching all age ranges and have high expectations of all pupils, regardless of their ability. I believe that I inspire and challenge pupils who are gifted at languages and I am confident in motivating and supporting those who find it more difficult. I ensure that my lessons are both challenging and differentiated by appropriately setting work to meet the individual needs of each pupil. I form positive, supportive relationships with pupils and believe my lessons are engaging and enjoyable for all.

My passion for education has led me to spend most of my free time over the past few years working on a PhD focused on the subject of peer assessment in modern foreign languages. After hundreds of hours of work, I will be finishing my PhD in January 2023.
