My favourite thing about tutoring is finding a way to blend games/activities and learning. In the past I have created review board games, made Kahoots/Blookets, made matching games, etc. I have found this to be not only more fun, but also much more effective in getting kids interested in the subject and having it stick with them. My lessons will typically start and finish with an engaging activity, while the middle portion will be completing a homework assignment, going through practice problems, or learning a new topic. I like to utilise BBC bitesize, online game-based learning platforms, and crafts into my lessons. Additionally, I will find creative ways to tailor the lessons to your kid's interests. For example, if they love Harry Potter, creating math review games with a Harry Potter theme, throwing in a Harry Potter trivia question. In my experience this has increased engagement and gotten my tutorees much more excited and confident about their math skills in the process.
