I am an experienced Chinese language teacher with a Master’s degree in TESOL from the University of Brighton. I originally trained as a language teacher in China and have many years of experience teaching languages in both China and the UK.

I teach Mandarin and Cantonese to children and adults, from complete beginners to learners who already speak some Chinese but would like to improve their reading, vocabulary and communication skills.

My teaching is highly personalised. I do not believe that every student should simply work through the same textbook page by page. I first look at what the learner already knows, what they find difficult and what they would like to achieve, and then design lessons around their needs.

For children, I particularly enjoy making Chinese characters meaningful and memorable. I use pictures, stories, mind maps, character components and radicals, word games and real-life situations to help children make connections between characters and gradually expand their vocabulary. A few familiar characters can often become the starting point for a whole story or conversation!

For adults, lessons can focus on practical Mandarin conversation, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading, everyday communication or specific personal goals. I can also help learners understand the cultural context behind the language.

My aim is not simply to help students memorise more Chinese, but to help them understand how the language works, use what they learn confidently, and enjoy the learning process.
