As a sociology tutor, my approach is rooted in academic depth and relatability. While I'm new to private tutoring, I bring nearly seven years of continuous study in sociology - beginning with GCSE and A-Level through to my undergraduate degree, and now progressing onto a Master's and PhD. This journey has given me a solid understanding of the subject across various educational levels and exam boards, as well as an insight into what students find most rewarding or difficult.
I tutor in a flexible, structured and friendly manner. My goal is to establish an environment where students feel at ease asking questions, making mistakes, and developing their social thinking skills. I simplify difficult theories by drawing on pop culture, current affairs, and real-world examples to make more abstract ideas more approachable and interesting. After a brief review or warm-up exercise to activate past information, lessons usually concentrate on important subjects like research methodologies, sociological viewpoints, or test-taking strategies. In order to help students develop exam confidence and successfully apply their knowledge, I also provide mini-assessments and practice with previous papers.
Many of my students and I may be close in age, which makes it easier for me to relate to them and bridge the gap between academic expectations and the real-world experiences that give sociology its life. My objective is to make students feel competent, supported, and prepared for success, whether they are having trouble with Marxism or learning how to evaluate theory. In my opinion, tutoring fosters a love of asking questions about the world in addition to imparting knowledge.
