Luka Ilic

Hello! I’m a medical student with a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Sussex, and I tutor GCSE Maths at both Foundation and Higher tier. Studying medicine has taught me how to learn difficult material efficiently, and I bring those same techniques into every lesson.

How my lessons work:
Every student starts with a short diagnostic in the first lesson, so I can see exactly which topics are secure and which need work. From there, I build a plan around the student’s goals, whether that’s securing a grade 4 or pushing for a grade 7, 8 or 9.

Lessons take place online using a shared digital whiteboard, so we can work through problems together in real time. A typical lesson begins with a quick recap of the previous topic, moves on to a clear explanation of something new broken down into small steps, and finishes with exam-style questions so the student can apply what they’ve learned straight away.

Exam focus:
GCSE Maths rewards method as much as the final answer, so I teach students how to set out their working to pick up every mark available. As exams approach, we move on to timed past paper practice, mark scheme analysis and strategies for tackling the longer problem-solving questions that many students find intimidating.

What students can expect:
I’m patient, friendly and never make anyone feel bad for asking a question, however basic it seems. Many students struggle with Maths because of gaps from earlier years, and I’m happy to go back and fill those in so new topics finally make sense. After each session I set a small amount of practice to reinforce the lesson.

My aim is for every student to walk into the exam feeling prepared and confident. I look forward to working with you!
