Lucy in a nutshell
The subjects I tutor are what makes me passionate and excited in my life! When I talk to you, you'll see that and how I love to explain concepts in simple, understandable terms - so that there's no idea beyond your understanding.

In my opinion, biology and science in general is the answer to all the questions in life. The way our body works, what we think about and what may go wrong in your body, can all be answered in science. That's why I pursued science in my career. I never wanted to work in an area that didn't fascinate me! My ultimate goal has been to teach these concepts to other people as passing on this message to others is really fulfilling.

I'm a qualified vet, PhD and brain researcher. I used to love presenting my work and making it accessible to anyone who was watching, whether they be professionals or a lay person.

In my last postdoc job I supervised an Honours student about his project. That involved talking to him about science and how he was going to investigate it to find an answer. I taught him the techniques in the lab that he needed to use. He ended up writing up a successful project and went onto to graduate with his degree.

During my Biology A Level, a friend asked me if I would help her. She needed to pass in order to get the grades she needed to go to Aberystwyth Uni. We had several sessions at her house, looking over the notes and discussing the best ways to remember certain concepts. When the results came out I was thrilled with my A grade, but she got an E and was able to go away and study her first choice!

So if you think I can help then get in touch and we'll go from there!

Lucy tutored me in molecular biology and cell biology, and supervised me in the practical application of that knowledge into the lab, teaching me several advanced methodologies in cell culture and pharmacology. Lucy is excellent at explaining complex ideas and techniques and making sure one understands. She is always available to talk if you have problems with concepts or need to go over something again, she will find another way to explain until it is understood.

During my PhD studies Lucy taught me countless scientific techniques. One in particular was rtPCR. Lucy took the time to clearly and patiently explain to me the scientific underpinnings of the method. Her clear explanation greatly assisted in enhancing my understanding of the reasons for each step and why it should be carried out in a particular way. I was able to quickly deliver accurate results on a new and difficult methodology, thanks to Lucy. I sincerely appreciate the time she took and the knowledge she patiently shared with me. My experience with Lucy wasn't through this website, however, in the time I spent with her she demonstrated key skills and strategies that would make her a fabulous tutor.
