Lucy Liddicoat

I am a qualified teacher with 5 years experience teaching in the independent sector in England, and 10 years of online tuition experience. This has given me lots of tools in my toolkit, and above all I believe in collaborating with my parents and students to ensure that my approach to tuition matches up exactly with what each child needs. That said, I do think there are four core tenets of my lessons that set me apart from the others, and don't really change from child-to-child.

1) I foster relationships and believe in connection first. I want my pupils and I to build a positive rapport, check in about how their week is going, and talk about the things the pupil is passionate about. Happy and relaxed pupils make better learners.
2) I have headed up the inquiry-based learning department in my previous school and teach with inquiry-based learning at the core of my practice. In short, this means that I believe in following the curiosity and interests of my learners to increase engagement, as well as opting for students to have agency wherever possible. The goal is to build learners with skills and the knowledge of HOW to learn, rather than learners who have just memorised some processes for a test.
3) I tutor full-time, I give my full attention to my students and put in the workload to back it up. No termly plans, no one-size-fits-all approach. I plan weekly and individually for each of my pupils, and respond based on how their needs change.
4) I believe learning should be fun. When teaching online, this means I use a fully interactive and multimedia approach that keeps my students engaged. We play games, mix images with text and video, in addition to practising with pencil and paper.
