I've got experience tutoring both year 5's and year 11's, but feel really comfortable with a wide range of ages. I graduated back in 2022 (English Literature and History) and my current career in the film industry involves a lot of script reading and making critical analysis on work, so in my everyday life I'm still using the key essay-based skills I learnt at university!

For me, I think the most important aspect of tutoring is getting students feeling really comfortable with the material and feeling confident in their abilities to ask questions and foster their individual critical thinking. I think this is where learning can become really fun and engaging, and I love showing students how their work can become more interesting to them personally. I think building up this way of thinking creates a strong foundation for their futures. I'm really flexible in the way people want to learn best, and always try to work collaboratively with students to figure out what ways of teaching is best for them! I think tutoring humanties is inherently quite hoIistic, I really want to engage in conversation on the topics to dive in on certain thinkings/ideas. In turn, I think that this also helps students in other essay based subjects.

I'm happy to do in-person or online teaching. In terms of lesson structure, during the first lesson, I like taking a bit of time to figure out what students understand and what they feel less comfortable with. I always like doing a quick review on what we did in the previous week, or if students have learnt anything new at their educational facility that they want to talk about futher. I like to align my tutoring with specific exam boards (where applicable) and am naturally quite a visual learner, so like using these types of resources. However, happy to work with whatever a student needs!
