Having recently graduated with a Merit in my MRes Biological Science degree, I believe I am well suited to tutor GCSE Biology.
I have around 2 years of experience working at Kumon, where I did maths and English tutoring, so I know how to tutor to children one-to-one. Additionally, as a Science Prefect, I did GCSE physics mentoring to a group of 3/4 students at a time. I achieved a grade 8 in my GCSE biology and an A for A-levels (affected by Covid) which I believe puts me in a great position to tutor the subject.
I am currently helping my sister revise GCSE Biology, and for this, she has told me which topics she is struggling with. Using this information, I make presentations using information from the exam board specification, BBC Bitesize and the CGP revision guides. She is able to ask me questions as I go through the PowerPoint. After this I ask some questions to gauge her level of understanding of the topic and then set some questions to do together at first, and then on her own. I encourage the making of revision notes immediately after consolidating a topic - flashcards, diagrams etc.
Throughout my degree, there have been times when I have explained topics and experiments to other students, and have been complimented on my knowledge and communication skills. I have been described as approachable, patient and resilient and I will ensure you are comfortable and confident in each topic.
Having dealt with different mental health issues throughout my education, I promise to guide and support you through any issues you are experiencing and can give advice on how to request extra time and accommodations for exams.
