My lessons are practical and conversational rather than lecture-style. The sessions are typically brief and frequent rather than long and infrequent, because I've found athletes retain and apply psychological skills better in short, focused bursts around training and competition, rather than in one long theory-heavy session.
Content is built around real situations you're facing such as pressure, confidence, motivation, focus, dealing with setbacks by using simple, evidence-based psychological skills training techniques. I avoid clinical jargon; everything is explained in plain, practical language you can use immediately in your sport.
Dynamically, I work in a guided-discovery style by asking questions that help you identify your own thinking patterns and solutions, rather than just telling you what to do. This builds skills that stick, rather than dependency on me. Where useful, I bring in visual tools (flip charts, simple diagrams) to make abstract ideas concrete.
My experience spans swimming, cricket, and cycling. I'm a Trainee Sport and Exercise Psychologist on the QSEP Stage 2 pathway.
I bring a strong emphasis on confidentiality and safeguarding, adaptability to different ages and levels, and a genuinely collaborative rather than directive style. You are an active participant in the process.
