Having been an au pair this past year, I have an excellent level of experience with helping the education of young children as my primary role was to advance their English as well as assist them in their extensive level of homework. My sister is a science teacher so I often help her mark work and I see where students often get confused and go wrong so with this insight I can be more helpful in targeting weaker areas. The format I prefer to use is focused on reviewing. To fully grasp difficult concepts, visiting it once is not a enough. To ensure comprehension, the first 15 minutes of the lesson will be reviewing previous content to see if the student has implemented the knowledge in their long-term memory and if not, we can spend some time going over grey areas. After the review, if the student has homework they would like some clarification on that would take priority for the session. If not homework or an upcoming exam, I would tailor the session to their examination board specification and either review previously taught subjects in school or give them a head-start in biology.
