I’m a native-speaking Japanese tutor with 13 years’ experience, qualified for teaching Japanese and ESL in middle school in Japan. I have been teaching GCSE Japanese in a UK school, conducting speaking assessments for GCSE exams, and have an excellent pass record for my pupils. I hold a current DBS and am trained to work with children with SEND (Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Dyslexia, OCD as well as anxiety related conditions such as Selective Mutism).
I could teach from complete beginners to GCSE and beyond, depending on the student's requirement. Also I offer practical Japanese session for travellers. For online lessons, I use Google Classroom and Google Meet. All the materials are free for students to print out. First lesson including consultation is free of charge. I will assess student's needs and level and plan the lessons accordingly. I aim at friendly and fun lessons.

Kumi is a wonderful tutor and I feel so lucky that I’ve met her and get to see her every week. I came to her as an independent Japanese learner of many years looking to establish a routine with someone that could keep track of my progress and help me become fluent. She was easily able to find material that was apt for my level, despite having stronger and weaker areas that make it hard to determine at which formal level I am (N1-N5). She is thorough with the content I get to learn in our hour together, and trusts that I can learn some things independently. Since beginning our lessons a few months ago, I am much more able to spontaneously read and communicate in spoken and written Japanese. As a very important plus, I am grateful for her experience with autistic students, given that I have needs and differences that I know not everyone would understand let alone work around. I can tell that she cares about me as a person, not just as a student.
