Hi, I'm Johvan!

I'm a First-Class Honours Mechanical Engineering graduate from De Montfort University with a passion for mathematics and helping students build confidence in the subject.

Education has always been an important part of my life, as my mum is a teacher. I've also received maths tuition myself, so I understand how valuable it is to have difficult concepts explained clearly. Additionally, I have previous tutoring experience through the National Tutoring Programme.

My Teaching Approach

My main focus is helping students truly understand mathematics rather than simply memorising formulas and methods.

I believe one of the most important skills in GCSE Maths is learning how to interpret questions, identify the relevant information and use logical thinking to work towards an answer.

My lessons follow a structured approach:

Learn the topic: Build a strong understanding of the mathematical principles and methods. Practise together: Work through examples to develop confidence and problem-solving skills. Apply the knowledge: Tackle GCSE past-paper questions to understand how topics appear in examinations. Develop exam technique: Focus on understanding what questions are asking and using logic to determine the correct approach.

I tailor my lessons to each student's ability and learning pace, creating a relaxed environment where questions are always encouraged.

My engineering background also allows me to demonstrate how mathematics applies to real-world situations.

Ultimately, my goal is to help students become confident, independent problem-solvers who can approach unfamiliar questions logically and achieve their full potential in GCSE Maths.
