My approach is supportive, structured and tailored to the individual pupil. I begin by identifying their existing strengths, areas of difficulty and particular goals.
Some pupils need help rebuilding confidence and addressing gaps in understanding. Others are already doing well but want to strengthen their mathematical thinking and maximise their attainment. Lessons are adapted accordingly.
Online tuition can be highly effective when lessons are carefully structured and personalised.
My current work with e-Sgoil has given me extensive experience of teaching Mathematics successfully in an online environment. I aim to make lessons interactive and engaging, ensuring that pupils have plenty of opportunity to ask questions, discuss their thinking and work through problems with support.
Where appropriate, lessons can focus on:
• Developing understanding of new topics
• Revisiting difficult areas
• Filling gaps from previous learning
• Applying knowledge to increasingly challenging problems
• Preparing effectively for assessments and examinations
My aim is not simply to help pupils get through the next test or examination, but to help them become more confident and independent mathematicians.
