I offer in-person tutoring in for students from primary school right through to A-Level, and I tailor every session to the individual in front of me, because no two learners are the same.
With 5 years of teaching experience, I've worked with a wide range of students: from younger children who are just building their confidence with reading and numbers, to sixth formers preparing for exams. Everybody learns differently, whether a visual, textual, or conceptual learner, that breadth has taught me how to adapt to each students' unique needs.
A typical lesson will usually begin by reviewing anything from the previous session or any classwork the student wants to unpick. From there, we move into new material or practice, and I like to make sure there's always time at the end to consolidate what we've covered and agree on a focus for next time. I find that direction: review, explore, consolidate, cements knowledge, ensuring that content is understood, and not just covered at a surface level.
I'm equally comfortable working through past papers and mark schemes as I am having an open conversation about a text or a academic argument. For younger students, I lean into games, storytelling, and visual aids to keep energy high and learning fun. For older students, I focus more on the critical thinking and independent skills that will serve them beyond the exam hall.
Above all, I want students to leave each lesson feeling like they've genuinely made progress - and, ideally, a little more curious than when they arrived.
