I love creating lessons and despite many years of teaching, I do not think that I have ever tught exactly the same lesson to different students! I believe the best teaching starts with the individual student in front of me, so I tailor lessons carefully to their needs, interests, strengths and areas for development. I aim to bring History to life and make even the most remote or unfamiliar topics accessible and relevant. I enjoy using modern examples and contemporary connections to help students understand why History matters, as well as encouraging plenty of discssion and debate. I particularly enjoy working with historical sources and helping students develop the skills needed to question, analyse and evaluate them rather than simply accepting what they read. My lessons are varied and interactive, using PowerPoints, carefully selected resources, discussion, questioning and student-led activities. Where appropriate, I encourage students to prepare before a lesson so that our time together can focus on developing the knowledge and enhancing their analytical skills and exam technique. I have extensive experience teaching students across all secondary age groups, including GCSE/IGCSE and A Level. I have worked with a range of abilities and learning needs, including students with SEND. My aim is always to build confidence as well as knowledge; to make the students feel that History is something they can understand, question and - most importantly - enjoy!
