I offer lessons to all levels from complete beginners, to advanced students.
I have been teaching Italian for 13 years. I have developed my own method called The Italian Formulas and written a course book, which is available to buy on Amazon. As a TEFL teacher of 26 years, I have a unique understanding of the difficulties faced by English speakers when learning a foreign language. Through this understanding I have developed an easy way to learn Italian, based on very simple structures. This method removes so much of the confusion often faced by learners, over tenses, the grammatical structures and the formation of the language.
Unless otherwise requested, my method is based on learning through conversation. This is how I taught myself Italian and how I have taught hundreds of students over the years. I have tutored students for the Italian GCSE , A' Level and CILS exams. I have also developed methods to help learners who struggle with blockages around language learning, meaning that everyone can feel confident, excited and fulfilled in my lessons.
My method works on the premise that real, everyday, spoken Italian only requires three tenses. These three tenses are the backbone of the language and are fundamental for fluency. With these three tenses we can speak with real confidence, manage conversations with ease, feel capable and really enjoy the fun of speaking Italian.
Once these three tenses are established, for learners wishing to sit exams, or for more complex situations, such as work or academic related learning, we then branch out into the nuances of the language, adding more tenses as we go.
Many courses focus on teaching all tenses, but I find that most students either feel overwhelmed by this, or learn all the grammar perfectly, but are then unable to put it into practice.
My method, has helped hundreds of students to speak confidently in many varying situations, write emails and texts, make phone calls as well as feel more confident in meetings, presentations and in social situations with Italian colleagues.
Having lived in Italy, I don't only teach the Italian language, I talk about the culture, as I believe that when we understand a culture and the mentality of a people, understanding their language becomes easier.
