Hello, I’m your teacher, Huihui.
I have been living in the UK for 16 years. In 2010, I came to the UK from China and obtained my master’s degree from the University of Leicester. After that, I worked as a Chinese journalist for 8 years.
In 2018, my son was born. Since then, I began to think seriously about how to help a British-born Chinese child learn Chinese well. Fortunately, there was a bilingual Chinese-English nursery near my home. My son studied there for a year from the age of 4, and his Chinese improved dramatically. This experience sparked my interest in Chinese language education.
Since 2024, I have been working weekends at Real Chinese Academy as a Non-Native Speaker Chinese Teacher, teaching the YCT curriculum for primary and secondary school students learning Chinese overseas. My students are mainly non-native Chinese speakers aged 7 to 10.
From this year, I have also been working part-time as a Chinese teacher at Pony & Panda Nursery, the nursery my son previously attended. In my daily teaching, I mainly read Chinese books to children, play Chinese language games with them, and teach them everyday Chinese expressions. The children here are aged 2 to 5.
Through daily observation and learning, combined with my own experience of teaching my son Chinese, I have also gained valuable teaching experience from my colleagues. I use different teaching methods according to each child’s needs and characteristics, such as singing Chinese songs, telling Chinese stories, and playing games. I have solid experience teaching both complete beginners and children who already have some foundation in Chinese.
