When you choose me as your English tutor I will begin with a trial lesson; it is important that you feel comfortable that I’m a good fit for your learning goals. I will use this trial lesson as an opportunity to get to know you, your learning goals and any specific learning needs that I should be aware of. I am neurodiverse, and as such have an understanding of the unique learning challenges we face, but also of how they can be overcome.

If, after this trial, you would like to continue lessons with me then I will develop lessons tailored to your learning goals and specific learning style.

For reading assistance: I would gauge the level your child is reading at currently and help them to engage with the material they are being taught. Reading requires patience and I would strive to help them develop an in depth understanding of diphthongs and grammar while we read.

For primary age children: I would ensure an in depth understanding of grammar and punctuation, and help to develop vocabulary in line with your child’s curriculum.

For GCSE/A-Level students: For students who are struggling with GCSE/A-Level English Language and/or Literature, I would develop lessons plans based on what the student is struggling with, whether that’s literary techniques, poetry, creative writing or otherwise. Not only this, but I would also personally scope out secondary sources for use in essays which we could discuss in our lessons. Critical thinking is a key element of both GCSE and A-Level English Language and Literature, and this is something I would be keen to incorporate into lessons to produce well rounded learners.

English as a second language learners: I would introduce specific grammar points for your current level and encourage a lot of student led conversations in order for students to make use of, and become confident in, what they are learning.
