I have tutored for 2 other companies (Tutor in a Box and Tutorful) for over 2 years and it's my dream job. I love helping students understand concepts they find difficult and supporting them throughout their journey through GCSEs/A Levels. I believe in "student-led learning", where students get to choose what topic they want to learn and I try to incorporate their individual interests encourage engagement. A typical lesson with me looks like this:
- General chit chat of how they are, how their week has been, what they've been up to
- Explain what I have planned for today's lesson and ask if that's ok or if they'd rather cover other topics (completely ok if they do!!!)
- Complete the lesson with light-heartedness, humour and genuine interest
- At the end of the lesson, I ask how useful they found it and how confident they feel on this topic now
- Ask what they'd like to cover next time (often I suggest ideas if they get stuck)
- Ask what they're up to for the next week
My lessons are fun and relaxed, the students are able to freely express themselves and there's no such thing as a silly question or answer! I try to make my lessons relevant to the students by relating to current trends and interests and this tends to work - even when the students hate the subject. I am familiar with AQA, EDEXCEL and OCR exam board and I am open to exploring others. Thank you for taking the time to read about my teaching style :)
