Biology teachers work in middle or high schools and help students learn about all living organisms’ origin, distribution, structure, and function. They prepare and deliver engaging biology lessons to a student body comprised of different backgrounds, interests, and abilities. They monitor student performance and adjust teaching strategies and techniques to improve content and subject delivery. They establish rules in the classroom, laboratory, and any field trips to ensure all students understand and accept them, emphasizing safety in the lab and during laboratory experiments.
Biology teachers prepare exams, assessments, and experiments following curriculum guidelines and standards of their states and communicate any issues to a parent, counselor, or other relevant staff members. They attend school events and club meetings, and staff meetings when required and represent the school at conferences, workshops, and other networking events. Biology teachers need a degree in biology or science and teaching certification.
