As a qualified teacher with SCITT training and a Biology degree, I’ve successfully taught students of all abilities, including those with SEND, EAL, SEMH, and low prior attainment. My teaching approach is research-informed and grounded in cognitive science. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build long-term understanding—starting with core concepts and guiding students toward independent mastery. I embed key literacy and oracy skills to strengthen scientific communication, and use effective assessment strategies (mini-whiteboards, hinge questions, low-stakes quizzes) to address misconceptions in real time.

As part of my PGCE research, I led a project on “Science Capital and Hooks”, exploring how students’ perceptions of science are shaped by their backgrounds. Many students don’t see science as relevant to their lives—but they should. I design engaging lesson starters and real-world discussion prompts to spark curiosity: “Should we invest in space exploration while people go hungry?” or “Can jellyfish venom save lives?” These questions help students connect classroom science to big-picture issues.

I also bring a calm, structured, and inclusive environment to every session. Observers have noted my “purposeful and respectful classroom climate,” and students consistently feel secure, heard, and motivated.
