I have been tutoring since I was 16, so teaching is something I have done and enjoyed for a long time. Between the ages of 16 and 18, I tutored Maths at GCSE level, along with Chemistry and Biology at A Level. I also worked as a tutor for first year Computer Science students while I was at the University of Glasgow. In these sessions I helped students work through their lab tasks, complete their programming work, and solve problems as they came up. I was given guidelines to follow at first, and over time I was trusted to run the sessions completely on my own.

Since starting medical school, my knowledge of both Chemistry and Biology has grown a good deal. My studies cover areas like pharmacology and physiology, which has deepened my understanding of both subjects and helped me see how they connect to the human body and to medicine.

My lessons are built around problem solving. I find this is the best way to help a student really understand their subject, rather than just memorise it. Before we begin, I take time to gauge what the student already knows and where they feel less sure. This helps me focus our time on the topics that will make the biggest difference to them.

I am also very thorough with my planning. I always make sure I know exactly what is on the student's curriculum before I create a lesson plan. That way, every lesson is tailored to what they actually need to learn for their course and their exams, with nothing missed and no time wasted.

As a tutor, I would describe myself as patient, approachable and reliable. I want every student to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, because that is how real learning happens. I adapt my approach to suit each student, since no two learners are the same.

My background in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science, together with my years of experience as a tutor, means I can offer lessons that are clear, comprehensive and built around each student. My goal is always the same, which is to help my students feel confident and excel in the subjects they have chosen.
