Who are you?
I’m a compassionate education professional with over four years teaching experience supporting learners to re-engage with education and English skills. I’ve been committed to making English accessible to all, regardless of age, ability and adversity. What are your lessons like?
My classroom is a kind, judgement free and facilitating space for you to positively learn, make mistakes and improve your confidence in English. My lessons are learner centred all the way. I make sure to put in regular brain breaks, breakdowns of bigger tasks and tailor activities and support to your needs and preferences. I love English and invoke joy and interest into my classes too, which always helps when learners are demotivated or struggling with the subject.

What will tutoring be like with you?
Your consultation will be primarily for tailoring tutoring to work for you. This is where we will look at what qualifications or criteria you would like tutoring for, look at your schedule and ability to commit (weekly, bi-weekly, bespoke, etc), and what sort of tutoring you would like (online or face-to-face). It also covers pricing, booking future sessions, block bookings, absence and more admin-y things. This will be done over the phone or a virtual call.

Then, your first lesson will be me gathering information about you, your ability and what areas of your studies you would like and may need to work on. I may get you to complete a diagnostic assessment, which can be done in session or prior. We would also trial out what sort of tutoring you would like and what benefits you the most, whether it’s a workshop, mentoring or lesson style. We I’ll also look at what other help you may want alongside your sessions. This is to get the most out of your tutoring but to also make sure it’s productive for you.

After that, we can work out how many sessions you’d like going forward, how frequent and how long each session will be as well as flexibility between online and face to face lessons. We can use your studying timetable / your normal week / work towards any mocks, exams or deadlines coming up to figure out what to focus on each session and how much time you have to work on things. I’m a big believer in forward planning and being transparent with you but also being flexible and honesty.

What were your students like?
I’ve worked with young people and adults facing a range of social, emotional, and educational barriers. Some didn’t go to school and some excelled; some hated English and some couldn’t speak it. With this, I’m passionate about creating a supportive, inclusive environment where people feel able to succeed in a safe learning space regardless of your previous education. I have a strength in tackling apathy, making people engaged and inspired whilst excelling on academic and personal barriers. Although I am open to helping people of all ages, the students I have taught previously range between college students (15-18) to adults (19+).

I have other services available if you don’t require 1:1 learning support and just need extra help with your studies. I can assist with:

What experience do you have?
My previous experiences varies. I have taught GCSE English Language resits and Functional Skills English with pre 16s and 16-18s. I have also facilitated adult ESOL learners, delivered and offered employability support, engaged in 1:1 tutoring and more. I’ve had great success with pass rates from pre entry to GCSE in exams, but also in the community for non-accredited English support. I’ve received positive feedback from my classes and through observations for being able to translate complex information and concepts into clear, understandable content.

I’m not looking for tutoring - I’m a teacher / trainer teacher / professional / company. What do you offer?
For professionals, if you need workshops, CPD or training sessions, lesson guidance and low prep lesson activities, get in touch. Outside of the classroom, I have delivered creative writing training, revision sessions and FS standardisation. I create engaging learning content and resources, as well as design accessible materials for different audiences face to face and online. I also have a strong attention to detail and quality of written work from experience in marking work and assessments.

You have an English degree… What else?
I also have a personal interest in reading skills, apathy towards fiction and getting students passionate about exploring their creativity. I am planning to further my academic journey with this my focus through a Masters and potential PhD in English. I undertook postgraduate teacher training in my last position, gained a Level 3 AET and other qualifications relating to SLDDs and Behaviour That Challenges. Although I don’t have a DBS independently, I’ve never had an issue with getting one in my job roles and I am looking into getting one solely for my tutoring.
