I begin by finding out why the student wants to learn Italian and what they can already understand. I then build each lesson around their level, interests and goals.
Lessons include a mixture of conversation, pronunciation, useful vocabulary and grammar explained in clear, simple language. I use realistic situations such as introducing yourself, ordering food, travelling, speaking with family or communicating at work.
I encourage students to speak from the beginning, without worrying about making mistakes. At the end of each lesson, we review what we have covered and agree on a few practical things to practise before the next session.
