I use the ABRSM Grade 5 theory practice books as a way of developing skills, and set mock questions as homework to go over in the next session. I place an emphasis on what markers are looking for, and how best to tailer exam answers to hit the criteria markers want to see. When working with younger children I take a more playful approach, teaching through making activities seem exciting, while with more mature students I always seek to approach them with a sense of shared understanding and caring directness - I believe that secondary school students work best when you treat them like adults!
