I am a highly experienced performing musician, composer, arranger and improviser with decades of experience. I have played on stages all over the world, worked as composer and arranger in a wide range of productions, and have taught music privately and have run workshops.
My lessons are one-to-one and built around the student, not a fixed curriculum. In our first session we talk about what you want from music, what you already know, and what's getting in your way.
Then according to your needs we could go in a various directions. We could analyse a piece, work through a harmony or counterpoint exercise, run an ear-training drill, or improvise together, so theory becomes something you can hear and use, not just memorise. I'll often use notation, recordings, and live playing to make an idea concrete, and I'm happy to work from your own repertoire, compositions, or exam syllabus.
I teach harmony, counterpoint, notation, ear training, rhythm, and improvisation. I am knowledgable of the techniques and forms used in classical music (from early counterpoint to 20th century serialism), jazz, and many other genres.
Lessons are easy going yet focused.
