I'm a chemistry graduate from the University of Lincoln, I used to tutor first year students in my final year. The way I teach is to let the studen guide me to what their issues are and I look out for common pitfalls and traps which I myself once fell into.

I personally like to remember and learn things using outside world references or things I'm interested in, so I like to see if we can do that but I have many other techniques to assist.
