About me

I believe the first step to learning another language effectively is to consistently communicate in that language.

I have experience teaching English as a second/foreign language in both the United States and Mexico. I have experience teaching/tutoring students ranging from 9 years of age to adulthood. The approach for the younger students was much more varied than that of the older students....

As far as the certifications go, I enjoyed the Teaching Business English content the most. It was fascinating studying the different "business cultures" that exist in various countries. The style that I learned in that course made a lot of sense. It stressed the importance of focusing on training students to accomplish tasks they would face in their lives. Tone, professionalism, formal vs. informal speech and writing were all important subjects. I can see the importance of this outside of the Business English arena. It's a good idea in everyday life to be able to seamlessly navigate between formal and informal situations, settings, etc. I appreciate the practicality of training someone how to navigate this labyrinth. Outside of building skills through real-world scenarios including how to respond to formal emails and when it is okay to respond with an informal approach, I also have utilized Content-Based Instruction (more traditional teaching method), Total Physical Response (especially good for the youngsters), and Cooperative Learning.

I look forward to meeting you and hearing about your motivations in why you are learning English, what your passions are, and how I can help.
