My lessons are designed to be engaging, student-focused, and adaptable to each learner’s needs. I start by understanding what sparks a student’s curiosity and what they hope to achieve, whether that’s mastering concepts, improving exam performance, or developing analytical skills. For students who enjoy discussion, I incorporate debate-style activities and real-world examples to stretch their critical thinking and encourage them to apply sociological theories in context. For students who prefer a more reflective or structured approach, I provide clear explanations, step-by-step guidance, and targeted practice to build confidence and understanding.
I draw on my own experience as an A* sociology student, where connecting theories to current events helped me evaluate ideas critically and develop high-level exam techniques. This experience informs my teaching: I encourage students to question, analyze, and evaluate, while also fostering an open, supportive environment where ideas can be safely challenged.
A key part of my lessons is using creative ways to integrate exam-focused resources such as mark schemes, success criteria, and examiner reports in a way that sticks! I ensure students understand exactly what examiners are looking for and how to meet those expectations. Lessons are tailored and I am eager to adapt them based on students' progress and feedback. I use premade PowerPoint Presentations based on students' current topic focuses, and throughout the lesson, I encourage students to actively contribute to developing the presentation in order for them to have high quality revision resource materials ahead of exams - which is much more likely to stick in memory for them as they would be much more personalized!
Additionally, I mix inquiry-based discussion practices, active feedback to current work with exam technique guidance so that students not only have a high-brow knowledge and understanding but also gain the confidence and skills to excel in assessments. My aim is to make learning both cerebral and effective, ensuring every student progresses and feels supported throughout their learning.
