Achieving a Grade 8/9 in GCSE Mathematics, I have developed a strong understanding of both the content and the exam techniques required for success. During my A-level studies, I gained valuable experience tutoring Year 10 and Year 11 students, many of whom progressed to achieve Grades 7–9 (A–A*). This experience helped me refine a teaching style that is adaptable, structured, and focused on measurable improvement.

Lessons are carefully planned to be engaging and purposeful. Each session typically begins with a clear, step-by-step explanation of a topic, ensuring students fully understand the underlying concepts before attempting questions. I then guide students through progressively challenging practice questions, encouraging them to verbalise their thinking and identify any gaps in understanding. A key focus is on exam technique—students are taught exactly what examiners and mark schemes are looking for, how to structure their answers effectively, and how to secure method marks even when they are unsure of the final answer.

I incorporate evidence-based learning strategies to maximise progress. These include active recall (regular low-stakes questioning), spaced repetition to improve long-term retention, and interleaving different topics to strengthen problem-solving skills. I also work with students to build a personalised “mistake log,” where errors are analysed and revisited regularly to prevent repeated mistakes and reinforce learning.

For students aiming for Grades 4–5, I prioritise building confidence through scaffolded questions, repetition, and mastering core topics. For those targeting Grades 7–9, I introduce more complex, multi-step problems and exam-style questions that develop higher-level thinking. I also provide guidance on effective revision techniques and independent study habits, helping students become more confident, resilient, and self-sufficient learners.
