Having done the subjects myself quite recently, I know the topics that are frequently examined. I know which topics to prioritise. I work at the student's pace, not rusing through the topic, not going too slow either. I will go at the pace that is comfortable for the student I am teaching.
I have a lot of experience helping friends and students through complex topics. I really enjoy helping someone work though uncertaintly. A lot of the time, what really happens is that the student knows what is wrong and how to actually do it right; all they need sometimes is a helping hand and some friendly reassurance from someone with good subject knowledge.
Depending on the topic that we are covering, my format of the lesson would vary. I could prepare a presentation to explain a complex topic, or use a whiteboard to work through something with the student. It really is up to how the student reacts to my methods; if they prefer a method of learning, then there is no reason why I should not do something similar regularly.
