I have more than 5 years of experience teaching. I also do a lot of translation services for different organization's. The main thing required to learn any language is fun. If you don't have fun while learning, your interest in the language will drop as the days go by
This will be the end of the language. When I say fun, I mean different languages have different sounds, that sound funny in the beginning. It's very important to take those sounds and use them in a funny way with your friends and family. Try to speak and joke around as much as you can. This initial fun will clear your mind and speech. Once this step is cleared and you are comfortable with the language and you can pickup sounds very well from a native speaker. The next step is to start learning the verbs and grammar. This step is the backbone of any language. It will take you continuous memorization of all verbs for at least a month and to get the grammar structure in line. Once you have at least 20 verbs and their conjugations in mind you are ready to watch movies and read. Then comes the never ending list of vocabulary, which is going to be the final step in taking your spanish to a respectable level and you can Converse with any native person that you come across in your day to day life or in your professional environment. This is how I approach a language and teach students to bring them to respectable level in spanish or english, which they feel comfortable with.
