I aim to make my lessons as fun as possible, implementing games, story telling and activities that keep my students not only engaged but motivated to learn. In my first session, I get to know my potential student and find out what it is that they need extra support with, as well as their interests (e.g. favourite shows, books) in order to implement those into my lessons.
Each lesson begins with a warm up task relevant to the subject/s being taught, and is then followed by an introduction to the subject being taught. I then provide a worksheet to see how the student applies the concept and then highlight where they may have gone wrong and ask them to explain their work to me. I am extremely patient and do not mind going over the topic numerous times until I find a way to explain it in terms that my student will understand. Once I feel my student has a grasp for the topic, I will introduce a game or activity to apply that concept.
I am happy to provide homework if requested, though I do try to keep it fun to encourage the student to give it their best go. I am also happy to lead field trips related to the subject, though this would need to be discussed further.
As an older sister to three girls between the ages of 4 and 7, two of which are autistic, I am always assisting them in their learning at home in ways that cater to them and their needs.
I received high marks in my GCSEs, a DDM in my Level 3 Ext Technical Diploma in Animal Management at college, and was chosen to be the student rep for my Zoology course at the University of Lincoln.
