Cheng Shan

Hi! I'm Cheng, a native Mandarin speaker with a deep love for language learning and teaching. I’m a graduate from MSc in Cancer at UCL, following a BSc in Applied Medical Sciences. I believe learning a language should be engaging, fun, and personally meaningful. As someone currently learning Hindi, Japanese, and Ukrainian on Duolingo, I truly understand the challenges and excitement of picking up a new language—and I bring that empathy into every lesson I teach. My lessons are engaging, supportive, and tailored to each student’s needs and learning style—whether you're a complete beginner or looking to improve your fluency.

Lesson Format:
Each session is a mix of structured learning and interactive activities. I typically begin with a short review, introduce new vocabulary or grammar, and then reinforce it through conversation practice, games, storytelling, songs, or role-playing—depending on the student's age and goals. I love using visual aids, real-life examples, and creative exercises to make the language come alive!

Content:
Lessons cover speaking, listening, reading, and writing. For younger learners, I incorporate play-based learning and cultural elements such as traditional songs or festivals. For adults or professionals, I can focus on practical conversational Mandarin or tailor content for specific goals like travel, business, or exams (e.g., HSK).

Experience:

I’ve taught over 100 primary school students English through an online platform I created during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I’ve delivered Mandarin lessons to international teachers from Sri Lanka and Ireland, adapting content to their interests and pace.

I’ve worked as a Biology Teaching Assistant in an Oxbridge preparation camp, so I understand how to support learners under pressure and boost their confidence.
