Hello! I’m Cheng Shan, a bilingual Mandarin- and English-speaking educator with an MSc in Cancer from UCL. Alongside my scientific training, I have developed a strong passion for early childhood education and supporting children’s growth with patience, creativity, and care.
My background includes paediatric research experience at Great Ormond Street Hospital, which strengthened not only my attention to detail and sense of responsibility, but also my appreciation for children’s wellbeing and development. During the COVID period, I founded an online learning platform that delivered English lessons to over 100 primary school children in China. I designed engaging lesson content and adapted my teaching to help children build confidence, curiosity, and enjoyment in learning. I have also mentored secondary school students at an Oxbridge preparation camp, where I supported them with interview skills, confidence-building, and managing academic pressure.
In addition, I have taught Chinese to international teachers from Sri Lanka and Ireland, adapting lessons to suit learners from different cultural and language backgrounds. I am currently teaching at a Chinese language school in London, where I design classroom games, prepare lesson slides, create interactive activities for children aged 5-7, and provide feedback to support their progress.
Coming from a family of teachers (my mother is a primary school teacher), nurturing and guiding children has always felt natural to me. I love singing traditional Chinese songs, playing the piano, and bringing stories to life through interactive reading and creative activities.
