My lessons are built around the individual child — there's no generic plan that every pupil works through. Before we start, I take time to understand how a child learns best, what they find tricky, and what motivates them. From there, I design sessions that feel purposeful and engaging rather than like extra school.
For primary English and maths, I use a mix of structured teaching, guided practice and open-ended tasks depending on what the child needs. I draw on a wide range of resources — including visual supports, manipulatives, games and real-world contexts — because I know that for many children, especially those with SEND, the way something is taught matters as much as what is being taught.
I have a particular specialism in supporting children who learn differently. As a practising SENDCo with experience of autism, ADHD, dyslexia, SEMH difficulties and speech and language needs, I'm skilled at identifying where a child is getting stuck and why — and adapting my approach accordingly. Sessions are calm, patient and low-pressure, but I hold high expectations because I believe every child is capable of making progress when the support is right.
For online sessions I use a virtual whiteboard and shared resources to keep things interactive — it never feels like just talking at a screen. For in-person sessions I come prepared with everything we need.
I always finish a session with a brief note to parents on what we covered and what to look out for at home, so you're never in the dark about your child's progress.
